Darinby was one of the Guild's finest, a true craftsman with family tradition behind him and glory ahead according to most savants, who predicted that he would soon become the Guild's youngest master.
Jame's narration, God Stalk,
"Chapter 5: Winter Days"

Darinby is a journeyman thief in the Thieves' Guild of Tai-tastigon under Master Galishan.[2] He's a friend of Jame's. He is known for his cream velvet d'hen.[3][4]

He once tells Jame, "For men like him, Talisman, you're a baited trap. They'll never be warned off because they can't admit to any danger." She recalls this many times throughout the later books.

  1. Honor's Paradox, "Chapter V: The High Council", IV — "As for Fash, an old friend had said it long ago: To such a man, she would always be a lure and a trap, because he would never take her seriously."
  2. God Stalk, "Principal Characters Past and Present"
  3. God Stalk, Book II: Crown of Nights, "Chapter 5: Winter Days" — "A tall figure passed by the end of the street, instantly recognizable by his cream-velvet d'hen."
  4. God Stalk, Book III: Shroud of Days, "Chapter 13: Three Pyres" — "Crossing a bridge to the north bank, she saw a familiar figure in a cream velvet d'hen walking blindly toward her."
