[O]ld Penari lives in the heart of [a maze] so complex that its own architect lost his way trying to get out and was never seen again.
Tubain, God Stalk, Book I: Tatters of Dusk, "Chapter 2: The House of Luck-Bringers"

The Maze is master thief Penari's home in Tai-tastigon, a "huge, circular edifice"[2], containing (as the name implies) a maze. It was built by Rugen.

The secret to the Maze is that it is a street plan of all five levels of the old city (thus the circular shape) plus basements and sewers, but with walls instead of houses.[3]

Penari himself has rarely left the Maze in fifty years.
