Rion is a Jaran Highborn. He is the great-great-grandson of Jedrak, former Lord Jaran, putting him in the same generation and Kirien, and surely a cousin. (Not a brother, because Kirien's father was blacklisted from breeding after her mother died, and Rion is younger than Kirien.)
When Jedrak dies, Rion is sent at the messenger to find Torisen. Rion is also one of the Highborn boys Torisen takes with him on a tour of the Riverland keeps in an effort to get the younger generation of boys to form friendships with others of other Kencyr houses, early in Dark of the Moon.

- ↑ Dark of the Moon, "Chapter 4: First Blood" — "Donkerri, watching, turned a dirty shade of white. He got up, trying to appear unconcerned, and nearly walked into the fire pit before Rion caught him. 'Blood-blind,' said Morien scornfully."
