Sumph is a god of the New Pantheon who performs duties associated with sanitation and waste disposal. Sumph "eats shit", among other things, and his temple cleans the sewer water of Tai-tastigon. Sumph's priests, in their Pest Control Chapter, also take care of pest infestations; Jame uses that Chapter in "Bones" to rid the Maze of an infestation of vhors.
- ↑ God Stalk, Book I: Tatters of Dusk, "Chapter 3: Into the Labyrinth" — " 'That be the sewer outlet.' 'But the water is perfectly clear!' […] ' Old Sumph and his priests see to that. We puts it out, they takes it in. Eats shit, does old Sumph—among other things—and loves it. You don't believe me, go over to the inner wall sometime and have a look 'cross at his backside.' "
- ↑ Blood and Ivory: A Tapestry, "Bones" — "Not long ago, the labyrinthine building had suffered from an infestation of vhors—large, vicious rodents with a tendency toward demonic possession—and she was not sure that she and the priest lent to her by the Brotherhood of Sumph (Pest Control Chapter) had dealt with all of them."
